Introduction

     The first Ephemeris represents the status of the project as of December 7, 2002. On this date, the site has been opened for limited use, using a non public URL, accessible through a control protocol. We plan on developing further the website in the next several months, with the assistance of staff members of the Urkesh project and of outside advisors. This will be a sort of “beta” testing period, which will last until April 23, 2003, when we plan to inaugurate the website for full public access.
     Most of the entries for Ephemeris 1 have been prepared by Giorgio Buccellati, who also takes responsibility for finalizing the format, conceptual as well as technical. Several individual entries were prepared by Marilyn Kelly-Buccellati, Rick Hauser, Sophie Bonetti, and Federico A. Buccellati.
     Federico Buccellati has served throughout the preparation period as the webmaster, in the specific sense that he has coordinated all the technical aspects, from the choice of providers and servers as well as the purchase of equipment to the technical definition of the system and contacts with interested parties.
     Fanxi Xu has worked especially on the finetuning of the overall setup, from the server hardware to the application of specific software aspects.
     Two undergraduate students have assisted in the preparation of the data – David Choung and James Guo.
